Status: RETIRED HERO
Moises Alou didn’t wear batting gloves when he hit. Instead, he’d toughen up his hands by urinating on them before games. He enjoyed pranking teammates he caught sleeping in the clubhouse.
Moises came from a Dominican baseball family. His father Felipe was a star player in his own right, and managed several teams that Moises was on. Two of his uncles and one of his cousins were also former Major Leaguers. And his half-brother Luis Rojas is the current manager of the New York Mets.
Moises Alou is a six-time All-Star and has a .303 career batting average over 17 MLB seasons. While he was a great player, he received just six votes on the 2014 baseball Hall of Fame ballot.
