Status: RETIRED HERO
From his debut in 2005 through 2010, Hanley Ramirez put up Hall of Fame-caliber numbers. His batting average during that time period was .313, and he averaged 27 home runs and about 40 stolen bases each season. But something happened at the end of 2010 season—maybe the elbow injury that he tried to play through in September 2010—and he was never quite the same again. Ramirez’ batting average from 2011 until his retirement in 2019 dropped to a mediocre .267. It seemed that every time he made a comeback, he was hampered by more injuries.
Hanley Ramirez ended his career with a Rookie of the Year award, three all-star selections, two Silver Slugger awards, and a batting title—all accumulated before 2011.
