Status: RETIRED HERO
Brian Giles spent his entire fifteen-year MLB career being a star player for small-market teams. As a result, he’s perhaps one of the most underrated players out there. He played in only two All-Star games, though by my count, he should have been in at least six All-Star games. In fact, he was not an All-Star for his two best seasons: 2002 when he hit .298 with 38 HR, and 1999 when he hit .315 with 39 HR.
But sadly, I don’t think things would have turned out much different for Giles even if he played for the Yankees. Issues of domestic violence have put a dark cloud over his career and stained his legacy. He lost an endorsement contract with Nair Hair Removal products due to a domestic violence dispute in 2002, and the San Diego Padres have cut ties with him.
